Push even the most capable machine tools to their power consumption limitations, taking depths-of-cut up to 9 mm with the 45-degree lead angle version of the Double QuattromillTM 22 and as deep as 11 mm with the 68-degree cutter version. Avoid the cutting force shortcomings of standard tangential-type face mills thanks to the specially developed grade and extremely free-cutting geometries of the Double QuattromillTM 22’s double-sided inserts.
Unlike other double-sided inserts, the Double QuattromillTM 22 inserts actually lower cutting forces/machine power consumption and thus ensure workpiece stability. The inserts feature high-axial rake angles that not only make them free cutting but also give them longer tool life and more versatility for a wider range of part materials including steel and cast iron as well as 15-5 stainless steel and superalloy materials such as titanium and Inconel.
The 45-degree Double QuattromillTM 22 lead angle provides a combination of lower cutting forces, less power consumption, higher feed rates and exceptional chip thinning. While on the other hand, the 68 degree is best when having to mill close to a wall or part fixture. The cutter is the perfect balance between the 45-degree version and a typical square shoulder mill in terms of cutting forces and depth of cut.
For good part surface finishes, Double QuattromillTM 22 inserts also feature wiper flats, and the 45-degree lead angle types come in three geometries. These include a highly sharp geometry for stainless steels, titaniums and other sticky materials; a universal type for steels to cast irons and superalloys; and one for steels, in particular tool steels from P6 to P11, and cast iron.
Enhanced chip control and evacuation as well as longer maintained tool surface appearance and durability result from Seco’s new Wave Technology applied to Double QuattromillTM 22 cutter body flute surfaces. These highly engineered wave or diamond-shaped patterns significantly reduce friction between flute surfaces and chips, which is especially beneficial when milling sticky materials.
For additional cost effectiveness, Double QuattromillTM 22 cutter bodies come in either fixed pocket or cassette versions for larger diameters from 200 mm up to 315 mm. Plus, cassettes are interchangeable, so there is no to need to purchase another new body if you decide to switch from 45-degree inserts to the 68-degree ones.
